RM of Lake Alma’s story
The Rural Municipality of Lake Alma No. 8 sits in the southeast part of Saskatchewan, right up against the United States border, with Sheridan County in Montana and Divide County in North Dakota as its neighbours across the line. It was incorporated as a rural municipality on May 5, 1913.
Within its boundaries are the village of Lake Alma, where the RM office is located, and the organized hamlet of Beaubier. The locality of Blooming also lies within the municipality.
The RM is also home to Sandoff Lake, about 7 kilometres south of the village of Lake Alma. This salt lake, with its irregular shoreline and many small islands, is recognized as an Important Bird Area of Canada. It supports a significant population of piping plovers, and the eastern two-thirds of its north shore is designated critical piping plover habitat, which protects the lake from development below the high water mark.
